We are seeking individuals with relevant experience to support Ryedale District Council with management and/or support with our Democratic and Commission Services function.  These opportunities include;

 

Democratic Services Manager Politically Restricted Post

 £39.782 - £44,632

 

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Democratic Services Manager to our Team and lead our Council through the phase of transition in the lead to a new Council in North Yorkshire.  This is a challenging role where you can make your mark, leading us through the 2022 elections process. You will lead a small but experienced team, ensuring all democratic processes are adhered to in a timely and efficient manner. 

We welcome applications from post-holders who would like to work on either a full or part time basis, secondments will also be considered

 

  • Applicants will use their experience of running effective and robust democratic arrangements and processes to ensure that Ryedale District Council runs smoothly during this transition phase. This includes elections, members support, learning and development, overview and scrutiny support, standards support, and support to Committees, Council and Elected Members.
  • You will have experience of scoping and managing commissioned services, ensuring that they meet organisational needs, deliver against agreed specifications and represent value for money. Two key areas of which are procurement and legal services.
  • The successful postholder will have the leadership skills to champion, promote and embed all aspects of good governance within the practice and conduct of Elected Members and Council officers.
  • Strong decision-making and advisory skills are required with the ability to communicate views in a clear and concise manner so that the highest standards of compliance and conduct are promoted and maintained
  • A legal qualification is preferred, however, willing to look at candidates with suitable experience.
  • You will build, maintain and influence the content of the new unitary arrangements relating to corporate governance, and therefore must adopt a collaborative approach and be adept at working with key stakeholders and partners. 
  •  The role requires attendance at some out of hours meetings to provide advice and guidance, these are generally held on an evening and may be a combination of online/in person.

We would also be keen to receive applications from candidates who would be interested in one or a combination of the above roles employed on a full or part time basis working a range of flexible working options, to support Ryedale District Council with these important statutory elements. As these are elements of the Democratic Services Manager role, they would be separated out and the salary would be reflective of the duties undertaken.
