Role: Educational Psychologist
Salary: Up to £55,921 per annum pro rata, plus 3% recruitment payment + relocation support up to £8,000.
Contract: Full-time and Part-time / permanent
Location: Harrogate or Selby. The service very much promotes flexible working with the ability to work remotely from other bases, as well as working from home. We provide exceptional technology, providing all the equipment to support home based working to ensure efficient, and effective service delivery.
This is an exciting time within North Yorkshire Educational Psychology service - we are embarking on an episode of considerable change. In March 2023, we are moving to a single new council for North Yorkshire to replace the current two-tier structure of local government. Presently, within the County Council we are a small EP team, however we are expanding, and we would like innovative, and solution-orientated psychologists to join us. You will have the opportunity to support in shaping the direction of the educational psychology service into the future.

We are specifically looking to recruit main grade educational psychologists – at this time. There will be an opportunity to develop specialist areas of responsibilities and interests. In addition, there will be flexibility in terms of the location of these posts.
The Role
The successful applicants would join our small central Educational Psychology team, and work within a multi-agency team. It really is a superb time to be joining our service to contribute to positive outcomes for children and young people with SEND in North Yorkshire. Our SEND services are based within four localities across North Yorkshire and include SEN caseworkers, educational psychologists, specialist teachers and practitioners together with speech and language therapists and occupational therapists. Personnel within four locality hubs are responsible for working closely with schools and settings to identify children early and to ensure they receive appropriate support and interventions to meet their special educational needs.
As an Educational Psychologist – main grade – you will be able to make a valued, contribution to developments within the EP team, and wider hub team. You will work directly with our inclusive, additionally resourced, settings that are an integral part of identified mainstream schools to embed consistent, inclusive practices. These settings are currently referred to as Targeted Mainstream Provision, TMPs. Support to these settings will be mainly systemic, although casework will also be provided. You will take part in monthly hub allocation panels to support colleagues with the early identification of children and young people with additional needs and advising regarding support or training that may be required by schools or settings.
There are opportunities to work therapeutically within our TMP provisions and a PRS setting. Educational psychologists within the team have been trained in CBT approaches. Consideration is also being given to training educational psychologists in other therapies such as ACT. Knowledge and skills gained from this training can then be used when supporting young people within our TMPs.There will be an expectation that you engage in an allocated amount of statutory work. Over time educational psychologists will also have the opportunity to be involved in projects in each of the hub areas which will further inform practice and strategy across SEND.
To be successful you must have a masters or doctorate level qualification in Educational Psychology and be registered with the HCPC; have experience of varied and relevant work with children, young people, and their families in a number of education and other settings; be creative and forward thinking with the knowledge, skills, enthusiasm and willingness to use psychological frameworks to facilitate positive change.
These posts are suitable for educational psychologists at any stage in their career, including those due to qualify in September 2023.
