Systems Development Officer

Salary: SCP 23-26 Grade I  (£27,741 - £30,451)
Contract: Established Full-time
Location: Northallerton

Are you passionate about technology and systems development? Do you have a drive to develop and continuously improve financial application systems? Are you looking for a new challenge?

As a Systems Development Officer you will be part of a large team of 40 people in Corporate Systems. Sitting within the Council’s Technology and Change Department, our team’s overall aim is to ensure the effective operation of key management information systems, so if you are looking for an opportunity to deliver, develop and support a range of systems across a vast network of offices, external users and partners, then this could be an exciting opportunity for you.

Based in Northallerton*, you will be working in a team who strives to foster a friendly and professional working environment where individual effort and team work is recognised and valued both by customers and colleagues alike. We encourage a positive work/life balance through flexible and home working practices and we are committed to developing our staff through on the job experience and professional training opportunities.

You will act as a lead for nominated financial applications, supporting your colleagues across a varied portfolio, including (but not limited to): accounting systems, an income management system and BACS Bureau. A basic understanding and knowledge of Accountancy is preferred but not essential.

You will truly become a systems expert, working collaboratively with internal and external partners, organisations and third party suppliers to help shape the current design and future developments of systems to meet business and statutory requirements. You will also be responsible for the successful testing and implementation of any new bespoke system developments, components and upgrade changes, as well as providing a professional, high quality second line support service.

Serving a workforce in excess of 20,000 people based in locations across North Yorkshire as well as external partners, we would be interested in hearing from you if you have significant experience in supporting, implementing and developing financial systems as well as data manipulation and API expertise. As an IT professional, excellent customer service and relationship building skills are a must.

In return we can offer you a comprehensive benefits package including flexible working, a local government pension scheme, family friendly leave, salary sacrifice, learning and development packages, employee discount benefits and access to a range of modern technologies to support modern ways of working.

Northallerton benefits from easy connectivity to the surrounding areas of York, Leeds and Teesside via a series of rail and road links, such as the A1 and A19, as well as being easily connected to other towns and villages throughout North Yorkshire through a series of road links.

*The successful candidate may be required to work full-time from home initially, in compliance with latest Covid-19 restrictions.

Occasional out of hours working may be required to support system upgrades and changes, as well as occasional travel to other NYCC sites and supplier events.

If you would like to find out more about the roles we would be happy to have an informal discussion with you. Please contact Zoe Hide, CST Product Owner on 01609 534341 or Natalie Cronin – Corporate Service Owner on 01609 797694.
