Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (light vehicle), level 3 Apprentices

NY Highways are looking to recruit two Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technicians (light vehicle) on a 3-year fixed contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your knowledge skills and competence in the workplace with the benefit of support from your learning provider, experienced colleagues, and the wider business. During your apprenticeship, you will gain experience in all aspects of transport planning and will work towards achieving a Level 3 apprenticeship and a career as a Maintenance Technician.

This role will start in September 2021.

Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (light vehicle)

Vacancy description

As an Apprentice in NY Highways, you will receive training and support throughout your qualification and will learn the latest servicing and maintenance techniques to enable you to better help your customers whether they need a standard service, MOT or repairs.

Day to day tasks will vary but include:

  • Servicing – carrying out vehicle/tyre checks
  • MOT’s – assisting to identify parts with wear and tear Vehicle Maintenance – replacing / repairing engine parts
  • Diagnostics – using the latest diagnostic equipment Maintaining repair and service records
  • The techniques and daily responsibilities you will learn will include:
  • Using diagnostic, mechanical and electrical measuring equipment to investigate vehicle faults and identify their underlying causes.
  • Inspecting and preparing customers vehicles ready for mechanical work.
  • Removing, repairing or replacing components to the correct specification.
  • Contributing to a safe working environment, by working within Health and Safety processes.
  • Admin and customer service duties that include updating job cards and providing quotations and estimations

Qualifications Required

  • Minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) grades of 9* - 4 (A - C) in English and Maths 
Skills Required  

The job involves numerous activities and technicians will need to be comfortable with a wide range of vehicles. As a technician, you will often be working as part of a team, so good communication and being able to follow instructions is essential in this role

Typically a motor vehicle apprentice might be expected to already have the following qualities: an interest in the way vehicles operate; able to demonstrate general analytical and mechanical skills, a capacity for mechanical reasoning and the potential to research, analyse and solve problems; well organised, methodical and good attention to detail; good spatial awareness; able to work in a team and to communicate well both orally and in writing; cares about delivering excellent service – both internally and externally to colleagues and customers.

Personal Qualities: 
Applicants must be aged 16 or over

Attained or working towards
Full UK driving licence  

Training to be provided

 
This is a Light Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship. 20% of your normal working hours will be dedicated to training for your apprenticeship. Learning will be delivered at a local College and will continue to be supported in the workplace.
You will also be assigned a dedicated mentor to support you in your role. As a result, you will achieve the below: Apprenticeship Standard Light Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Functional Skills in English & Maths (if required) Certificate in F-gas regulation
