Job Role: Principal Education Adviser (Early Years and Primary)
Salary: Soulbury 26 to 28 + 3 SPA
Contract: Permanent (secondments considered)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: Primarily based at North Yorkshire County Council, County Hall, Northallerton with county-wide travel

We are looking for a strategic, inclusive and performance-focused leader to join us as Principal Adviser for Early Years and Primary to drive improvement, proactively solve key education challenges and promote high standards in schools and settings.

This is a pivotal leadership role in the Education and Skills Service and an exciting opportunity to work with schools and settings across North Yorkshire, from towns to rural communities to schools on coast. As Principal Adviser you will work with schools, particularly specialising in early years and primary, including nursery schools, Special Schools and PRUs. The size and geography of North Yorkshire will also enable the post holders to work with a wide variety of different types of schools and settings including maintained schools, academies and small schools some of which are facing challenges with budgets and pupil numbers. The role is demanding, challenging but hugely rewarding, making a real impact on children's lives, driving tangible school improvement improving outcomes for all children.

The post holder will manage a team of Education Advisers who are responsible for school improvement and work directly to the Head of School Improvement. To be successful in this role you will have a strong track record in school improvement and senior leadership in education; your experience enables you to identify the key challenges and deliver solution focussed services that successfully drives improved outcomes for all children.

The post holder will also work across a variety of service areas including inclusion, the opportunity area and liaise with colleagues in the Children and Families Service. You will deputise for the Head of School Improvement and become involved with leading professional development days, working with school leadership teams and the teaching school alliances, school reviews and North Yorkshire data analysis developing a strategic approach to tackle challenges, development needs and new innovations.

In addition to leading a portfolio of school improvement services through your teams, you will be the strategic lead for key themes across the service.  A pivotal role in the School Improvement Service leadership team you will develop and lead the service’s strategic direction, be a key influencer with the newly formed locality boards and wider strategic partnerships. 

You will be a corporate player, developing partnerships across services collectively using professional strengths to drive impact.
