Graduate Trainee - Environmental Health

Location: Ryedale District Council, Malton
Grade: E, F, G
Salary: First six months at £19,171, second six months at £19,945, final 12 months at £22,021
Contract: 2 year fixed term positions as part of the NYCC graduate programme
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Start date: Anticipated start of summer 2020

We now have an exciting opportunity for a graduate to join our Environmental Health Team as a Graduate Environmental Health Trainee.  

This is a fantastic opportunity to apply and develop your technical knowledge and skills in a busy rural District Council. As Graduate Trainee you will have the opportunity to gain experience across a wide range of Environmental Health and Licensing functions, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of Environmental Health and Licensing legislation, undertake directed inspections and investigations to assess legislative compliance by business operators and initiate formal and informal actions resulting from such inspections and investigations. 

You will have the unique opportunity to take responsibility for the delivery of key pieces of work including:
• The development of the Council’s dedicated Environmental Health and Licensing software package, including implementing idox Enterprise package for performance management;
• The development and implementation of a private water supply protocol and sampling programme in accordance with statutory requirements;
• The development and implementation of a food sampling protocol and a microbiological food sampling programme;
• Exploring and evaluating the electronic data management (EDM) solutions to assist the department’s record storage and record retrieval;
• Assisting in the monitoring of air quality in the district and in the preparations of reports displaying and interpreting the data collected.

As Graduate Trainee you will be expected to participate in training opportunities, self-study and shadow front line officers to learn and develop enforcement knowledge, skills and techniques. You will gain a good understanding of working in partnership with other organisations including District Councils, North Yorkshire County Council, Town and Parish Councils, advising and educating stakeholders, assisting with administrative functions and duties, all the whilst being supported by highly experienced officers and other specialists.
