Location: County Wide

Grade: H

Salary: £24.982 to £27.741 (pro rata)

Contract: Term time only + 2 weeks (pro rata) – initial 6 month contract

 

An exciting and rewarding opportunity has become available for a Specialist Practitioner to work with Children and Young People (CYP) with Vision Impairment in North Yorkshire.



The post holder will:

  • Deliver effective support and intervention for CYP with VI needs, 0-25 years, in a variety of contexts, including home and school.
  • Under the guidance of the VI Specialist Teacher you will play a role in:
    • Planning and delivering effective support for CYP with sensory needs
    • Developing the skills of those supporting CYP with sensory needs.


You will have:

  • Experience of working with families and young children with VI needs
  • Experience of working within educational settings
  • Knowledge of technology and resources relevant to children with VI  
  • Excellent verbal & written skills
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Excellent personal and time management skills
  • An ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Excellent recording and report writing skills
  • An awareness of technology used to support vision impairment
  • Knowledge of Early Years/Pre-School Initiatives (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Statutory Assessment procedures/Code of Practice (desirable)
  • Knowledge of mainstream school curriculum (desirable)
  • Experience of up to date inclusive practice in the education of VI children and young people
  • Knowledge of impact of VI on children and families
  • A flexible approach and positive attitude
  • The confidence to work alone as well as part of a team

It would be beneficial to have experience of:
  • Delivering training to staff
  • Delivering habilitation programmes (VI)
  • Braille (teaching to grade 1 or 2) (VI)


The ideal candidate must have use of their own car to travel across County. The role is Countywide.
