Graduate Trainee - Waste and Environment
Location: Ryedale District Council, Malton
Grade: E, F, G
Salary: First six months at £19,171, second six months at £19,945, final 12 months at £22,021
Contract: 2 year fixed term positions as part of the NYCC graduate programme
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Start date: Anticipated start of summer 2020
As Graduate Trainee you will have the opportunity to gain experience across a wide range of waste management, recycling and environmental initiatives, and develop a comprehensive understanding of Waste and Environmental legislation.

As Graduate Trainee you will have the opportunity to gain experience across a wide range of waste management, recycling and environmental initiatives, and develop a comprehensive understanding of Waste and Environmental legislation.
This is a fantastic opportunity to apply and develop your technical knowledge and skills in a busy rural District Council. As Graduate Trainee you will support the Streetscene Manager in the development of carbon reduction and environmental impact assessments for the service. You will have the unique opportunity to be involved in changing national landscape affecting resource and waste management.
The role offers the opportunity to gain experience across a wide range of waste management, recycling and environmental initiatives including:
• Assist with ensuring Council Policy and Procedures reflect National Policy and Guidance;
• Co-ordinating communication and engagement of front line staff to ensure awareness of key priorities;
• Supporting campaigns and developing a communication plan including events, website development, short videos and media publicity;
• Assisting with designing and updating literature;
• Assisting with data collection and implementing data driven service improvements;
• Assisting with developing and implementing improved performance managements and reporting.
As Graduate Trainee you will be expected to participate in training opportunities, self-study and shadow colleagues to learn and develop your knowledge, skills and techniques. You will gain a good understanding of working in partnership with other organisations including District Councils, North Yorkshire County Council, Town and Parish Councils, whilst being supported by highly experienced colleagues.
