We are excited to be launching the new Medical Education Service from September 2020. The service will help schools to provide continuity in education when a child or young people have been absent from school due to a physical or mental health need.

 

We are looking to recruit a passionate English teacher/  tutor in the Selby area who is eager to play a positive role in a child or young person’s life during what may be a challenging time for them and their family. This is a very rewarding opportunity to be a part of a new service which will ensure a child’s education continues despite their medical need.

 

 

About the role

 

Teachers will be based in Selby. Travel across the county will sometimes be required.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for (but not limited to) –

 

·       Planning and delivering English tuition to children and young people (CYP) ages 5-18 with medical needs, this may be 1:1 or group tuition.

·       Liaising with schools to gather resources and to work alongside school teachers to mark work completed by the children and young people.

·       Developing positive working relationships with children and young people, school, health, parents/carers and any other professionals involved.

·       Supporting and advising schools and settings, and parents on a wide range of organisational and curriculum issues relating to support for children and young people with physical or mental health needs.

 

About you

 

We are seeking applications from those who not only work well as a team but also by themselves and who can build trusting relationships with professionals and families whilst maintaining professional boundaries.    

 

You must be able to evidence significant experience of working with children and young people (CYP) in an educational setting, with a good understanding of child/young people’s development and learning processes, including statutory requirements of the SEND Code of Practice. It is essential you have qualified teacher status in English along with up to date curriculum knowledge for ages 5-18.

 

It is vital that you possess the desire, passion and motivation to work with children and young people and have good emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours and attitudes.
