Our roles allow a flexible approach to working. Whilst work can be undertaken from your home base, there will be a requirement to attend the office on occasions due to service need. While virtual working is promoted as a modern and efficient way of delivering services, the need for face-to-face visits will also be required at times, depending on the needs and circumstances of the individual you are working with. With this flexibility in mind, we encourage applicants to apply who might wish to work more flexibly or alternative hours (for example only weekends).

Our team includes exclusively Occupational Therapists responsible for assessing adults, older people, children and people with physical, sensory and mental health conditions. We also have a senior OT allied to the team who supports with professional issues and development and provides regular peer support. Additionally, we work closely with OT’s working within the NHS in the Craven area.

You would be joining us at a pivotal time for both North Yorkshire and the County Council's development as we take forward our 2020 plans and work with partners to develop a distinctive public health and adult social care agenda. This aims to support more people to live longer, healthier and independent lives.

As an OT your focus will be to maximise the independence and safety of vulnerable people in North Yorkshire who have social care needs using a person centred approach. This will be achieved by undertaking assessments with vulnerable people using the Directorate’s procedures. You will also play a key role in supporting people and carers who have been assessed as being in need through the provision of advice, support, equipment and adaptations to develop appropriate support plans to meet their preferred outcomes within specified resources.

Looking for innovative solutions to people's needs and promoting assets based assessment and support in people’s communities and well as assisting people with care and support needs, working with them to develop creative solutions will be fundamental.

We ask that you have a professional Occupational Therapist qualification or are in the process of qualifying and registration with the HCPC and have a comprehensive knowledge of current legislation, including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Equalities Act, Deprivation of Liberty, Best Interest Assessments, Moving and Handling Regulations and the Mental Health Act.
