Do you have a strong, successful track record in leading safeguarding in an education environment?

We are looking to recruit safeguarding expertise to our school improvement team. This safeguarding advisor role is key to meeting the priorities in the council’s School Improvement Strategy that puts safeguarding at the forefront of the team’s work to improve schools.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a range of schools and settings across North Yorkshire, from towns and rural communities to schools on the east coast. You will work with a wide variety of different types of schools and settings including maintained schools and academies who support children from early years to post 16. Your role will include auditing, advising and the delivery of development activity to schools and settings through our enhanced safeguarding support package.

You will currently be a respected serving school-based practitioner with DSL experience or a system practitioner in a relevant role within a Local Authority or MAT. You will have the knowledge, skills, credibility, passion, and experience to:

·     influence, inspire and support others so that the safeguarding and welfare of children is at the forefront

·     recognise and share best practice already evident in settings and schools in North Yorkshire and from your knowledge of best practice elsewhere

·     effectively challenge settings where the safeguarding culture is not yet effective and secure rapid and sustainable plans for improvement

·     develop collaboration and partnerships between settings, schools, stakeholders, and system partners

·     understand local risks and provide timely expertise, guidance and signposting to schools and settings

If you are interested in this post and would like to become a part of an ambitious authority with a strong track record and a relentless focus on delivery and performance, we would welcome your application.

If appointed, you will be expected to work in partnership with headteachers, school leaders, EY managers and advisers from North Yorkshire school improvement service, including working closely with our existing safeguarding adviser. You will build connections with the local safeguarding partnership and other education and inclusion services.

Your role will be traded to schools and settings so you will be expected to regularly visit schools across different areas of the county. The council’s travel policy applies – more information is available if requested.

We understand the importance of workforce development and you will be well equipped with the skills and knowledge, to effectively deliver and improve service. As a council we are very much committed to encouraging flexible working for our employees, including using modern technologies to support agile ways of working.
