Graduate Trainee - Housing, Technology and Sustainability

Location: North Yorkshire County Council, County Hall

Grade: E, F, G

Salary: First six months at £19,171, second six months at £19,945, final 12 months at £22,021

Contract: 2 year fixed term positions as part of the NYCC graduate programme

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week

Start date: Anticipated start of summer 2020

 

This is a unique opportunity for a Graduate Trainee to join a team with a broad remit to influence change in key areas of vital importance to NYCC.

 

The Health and Adult Service Housing team is well established and one of very few integrated Housing Development teams in the country, overseeing the development of Extra Care from concept and planning through to build and operational delivery. The team leads on the development and support of the Extra Care programme which is one of the largest in the country with 23 schemes and over 1200 units of accommodation as well as a range of supported housing services for people with care and support needs. The Technology Enabled Care section is new to Health and Adult Services and will offer the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated social care professional.

 

The Housing, Technology and Sustainability team also leads on the implementation and application of new technologies into social care. To date this has included the use of robotic pets for people with dementia and we are in the early stages of developing a predictive tool for anticipating and responding to falls. Technology enabled care is rapidly advancing and the team is responsible for researching and analysing the usefulness of new technologies as they emerge as well as developing practice guidance for professionals to ensure technology is applied safely and effectively.

 

The team also has a strategic lead on sustainability and climate change for the Directorate, ensuring our services are environmentally sound and sustainable for the long term. 

 

As Graduate Trainee you will support the Technology Enabled Care Practitioner in researching, understanding and implementing new technologies into front line care. You will also independently deliver limited scale projects under direction from the Technology Enabled Care Practitioner or Head of Housing Market Development and develop guidance and information for frontline staff to ensure they are confident in the use of technology and are aware of the opportunities and risks associated with any new solution

 

You will have the fantastic opportunity to support key pieces of work, tasks will include:

·         Liaising with teams within Health and Adult Services and NYCC to understand their roles and how service   delivery could be improved through the use of technology;

·         Horizon scanning and understanding emerging technologies, looking for use cases and test opportunities and evaluating outcomes for individuals;

·         Working with Technology and Change to learn skills around project and change management;

·         Creating reports and evaluations of potential solutions for consideration by senior management;

·         Running engagement sessions with members of the public to gather feedback on potential solutions and use cases;

·         Supporting the Housing Development team in all aspects of commissioning and support for Extra Care and Supported Housing.

In addition, you will work closely with strategic planning, service development, commissioning and operational support, offering an opportunity to develop a wide range of skills and knowledge across Health and Adult Services allowing you will understand how directorates work together effectively to deliver shared projects and objectives.
