North Yorkshire and York are looking for an exceptional person to fulfil the sensitive, challenging and rewarding work of Child Death Review Officer. This is a unique role that requires proven organisational and communication skills along with the ability to analyse trends and produce reports. The successful candidate will work closely with both North Yorkshire and York’s Safeguarding Partnerships and with partners from Health and Police so it is essential that the successful candidate is able to build and maintain excellent working relationships.

This is a diverse administrative role and among other tasks the successful candidate will be required to:

·     Be the lead coordinator for the Child Death Review Process and single point of contact for multi-agency partners in the event of a child death.

·     To be responsible for the immediate instigation of the Joint Agency Response meetings ensuring all relevant services involved in the care of the child are present, minute the meetings and support the chair to ensure all relevant information is captured and actions are recorded and reviewed at the initial and subsequent meetings

·     To coordinate forward planning arrangements and action plan monitoring processes to assist the Child Death Reviews

(To get a thorough understanding of the role please see the attached job description.)

When a child dies people close to that child experience a profound loss that will impact them for the rest of their lives. As a Safeguarding Partnership we recognise that the statutory requirements for reviewing the deaths of children in North Yorkshire and York need to be grounded in respect for and an understanding of the rights of children and their families.

Child Death Overview Panels (CDOPs) were enacted as a requirement of Working together 2018. The purpose of the CDOP is to ensure that when a person under the age of 18 dies there is a comprehensive and independent review of the circumstances around that child’s death. The role sits within the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children’s Partnership and supports the statutory requirements around the deaths of children across North Yorkshire and the City of York.

This is a challenging position which will require someone with a high degree of personal resilience, however they will be part of a small and supportive team made up of a Safeguarding Partnership Manager, two Policy and Development Officers and a Leadership Support Officer. The successful candidate will receive a range of supervision and wellbeing support as part of the role and will  be encouraged and supported to develop relationships with other CDOP professionals regionally and nationally.

We welcome conversations about this varied and interesting role and would encourage informal discussions to take place with Hannah Ellingworth, Safeguarding Partnership Manager Hannah.ellingworth@northyorks.gov.uk or 07583032522.

We look forward to hearing from you.
