The new Speech and Language Therapy posts will work to complement the work of the existing NHS service within the county, and so will have a role distinct to that which already exists. They will work to enhance the LA offer to children and families within the statutory EHCP process, providing reports and detailed input to support complex assessments, and to make recommendations about future provision. They will also then be able to offer an enhanced level of S< support and intervention for cases requiring it, particularly around building the skills and knowledge of colleagues within the hubs, and within schools, settings and colleges.
An additional focus will be the new targeted provisions being established within North Yorkshire, based in mainstream schools these will support children who can access a mainstream setting with an enhanced level of support. These new posts will work alongside NHS colleagues to enhance the SLT support available to staff and children in those provisions. They will be supported in this work by SLT assistants.
Posts are available in the four hubs across the county: Selby; Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon and Craven; Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale and Hambleton and Richmondshire.
