Deputy Manager (Residential) – No Wrong Door – Strengthening Families Protecting Children Programme - Middlesbrough Council

Grade: M
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: £39,880 - £43,857 per annum, pro rata
Location: This post is employed by North Yorkshire County Council to work in Middlesbrough Council within their No Wrong Door Hub - ‘Futures for Families’.  Based primarily in Middlesbrough you may also be required to attend North Yorkshire on occasion. This permanent post arrangement is scheduled to last until August 2022 with NYCC, with the post then transferring to Middlesbrough Council.

Deputy Manager Residential - No Wrong Door - Strengthening Families Protecting Children Programme (SFPC). You will be part of the management team that supports a wide range of accommodation (including residential), support and the edge of care services that make up a NWD model. We are looking for a No Wrong Door (NWD) Deputy Manager who is equipped to take on a truly unique position; the key purpose of the role is to be responsible for the delivery of a quality Hub model which fundamentally places effective relationships with children and families at its heart. You will lead from the front to generate a change in culture, systems, relationships, practice and ways of working together, whilst working within national guidance, standards and regulations. You will have the determination to make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and families in Middlesbrough, supporting families to stay together, in their networks and community whilst improving lives. In turn this will reduce the need for children to become cared for and in due course reduce costs to the council and it’s partners.

The role of Deputy Manager is dynamic and diverse, requiring a confident, autonomous individual to drive forward practice and influence stakeholders, partners and colleagues. We are looking for an innovative professional with experience and resilience in working with vulnerable young people who have had complex lives and whose behaviour can challenge those supporting them. You will be driven, astute, inspirational and a great communicator who strongly believes in a relationship based approach when working with children and young people, whilst ensuring multi-agency networks are developed and maintained with the NWD approach kept at the forefront of Middlesbrough’s strategic developments and partner’s priorities, at all levels.

As Deputy Manager you will demonstrate real leadership and direction that enables your team to work at their best, using evidence based models including Relational Approaches and Restorative Practice. You will provide on-the-ground support and drive change in finding solutions, building sustainable and meaningful relationships and managing the reduction of risk, whilst focussing on local placements with the clear objective of improving work with families and safely reducing the number of children entering care. You will have a primary focus of delivering an excellent residential service whilst being part of a management team that supports all aspects of the ‘Futures for Families’ service.

You will work in Middlesbrough Council whilst being an NYCC employee. You will progress and develop their NWD approach, working closely together to successfully adopt and adapt the model. The implementation will bring systemic change to working with the hardest to reach, engage and place adolescents and fundamentally challenge traditional methods of practice and theoretical thinking.
