Do you have a strong, successful track record in leading school improvement?

We are looking for a passionate, successful and inclusive leader to join us as Head of School Improvement to take a strategic lead for this important and highly–valued team.

The role is central to the ambition for schools and settings across the county. In North Yorkshire, we want all children to be safe, happy, healthy, and to achieve well. The School Improvement team supports and promotes these aims and the head of service role provides a challenging yet exciting opportunity to make a real difference to children, schools and settings across North Yorkshire. As head of the service you will lead on improvements for education settings for children from pre-school age to post 16. Your team will include specialists across early years, primary, secondary, special schools and PRUs.

North Yorkshire has over 360 schools and over 500 early education and childcare settings. Through your team, you will have clear understanding of the strengths and needs of the 200+ maintained schools and you will develop and maintain strong relationships with leaders of academy trusts. The role is vast and complex but hugely rewarding. Your leadership will make a real impact on children's lives.

The post holder will manage a team of Principal Advisers who share responsibility for a large group of schools and for an education phase. Within the service, a team of education advisers are allocated to a set of schools and the team offers other specialists including governor support, clerking and early years.   To be successful in this role you will need the expertise to manage multiple teams across a large organisation, working in an ever-changing landscape.

The post holder will be expected to lead projects that require collaboration with a range of school-related council services such as inclusion, finance, strategic planning and HR. As the strategic lead of school improvement, your influence will stretch across internal and external stakeholders. You will liaise closely with Teaching School Hubs and other partners in the school improvement arena.

You will be a corporate player, building on collaborative working across services and collectively using professional strengths to achieve shared targets.

This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your career; you will be given opportunity to develop your skills in working across a large and complex organisation.

We understand the importance of workforce development and you will be well equipped with the skills and knowledge, to effectively deliver and improve the service. As a council we are very much committed to encouraging flexible working for our employees, including using modern technologies to support agile ways of working.
